The District recognizes the educational value of international exchange programs and foreign exchange students and authorizes the admission of a limited number of non-immigrant foreign exchange students and non-immigrant tuition-paying students to the regular educational program offered in the District’s schools. To protect the interests of the District, its schools and students, only foreign exchange students from programs accredited by the Council on Standards for International Educational Travel (CSIET) and students privately sponsored by area residents shall be admitted.
Non-Immigrant Tuition-Paying Students must:
1. Have enrollment approved by the high school principal and Superintendent of Schools
2. Hold a valid F-1 visa
3. Enroll for academic purposes and maintain a full course level
4. Enroll as a full-time student
5. Matriculate towards graduation following the course sequence as prescribed
6. Enroll for up to one school year or multiple school years if visa renewal is granted
7. Have a host guardian who resides in or near the District who has met with the high school principal and/or
Superintendent of Schools
8. Be approved by the Board of Directors and pay the public school tuition rate for Mt. Ararat High School prior to
enrollment
9. Be entitled to all the benefits, services and privileges of any other resident student in the District
10. Receive an I-20 A-B certificate of eligibility from the District for the F-1 student visa
11. Hold current immunization record commensurate with State of Maine requirements
12. Abide by all regulations outlined by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for the F-1 visa
Non-Immigrant Foreign Exchange Students must:
1. Have enrollment approved by the high school principal and Superintendent of Schools
2. Hold a valid J-1 visa
3. Participate in a program accredited by the Council on Standards for International Educational Travel (CSIET)
4. Enroll for cultural purposes and maintain a full course load
5. Enroll for non-graduation purposes and are not eligible to graduate
6. Enroll for up to one school year
7. Have a host guardian who resides in the District who has met with the high school principal
8. Have access to extracurricular activities – Students participating in interscholastic sports must abide by Maine Principals’
Association regulations regarding interscholastic competitive programs.
9. Hold a current immunization record commensurate with State of Maine requirements
10. Other services, such as special education or educational support, may be provided if approved by the principal and Superintendent of Schools.
11. Abide by all regulations outlined by U.S. Department of State for the J-1 visa
